One of a series that expands the chawan, a form emblematic of Japanese tea culture, both physically and conceptually. Although a chawan is made for drinking tea, it is never merely functional: it distils and expresses the aesthetic sensibilities of both tea practitioner and maker. Enlarging the form removes it from the act of drinking and brings its role as a vessel of concentrated aesthetic vision into sharper focus.
