This work draws from Shinichiro Yoshida’s archive of historical hemp and ramie textiles. Through an intuitive selection of fabrics chosen for their transparency, lightness, and layered qualities, Engelgeer reinterprets centuries-old materials in a contemporary composition. In its making, the craftsmen were challenged to preserve the transparency between the different layers while framing the work, ensuring that the structure would not compromise the visual depth of the textiles. Transparency and layering are central to the piece, shaping both its material presence and its spatial reading. The resulting work reveals a subtle interplay of color, texture, and time, connecting traditional craftsmanship with a modern visual language.
