White on the outside, black within—a chawan that draws two contrasting states into a single vessel under the concept of yin and yang. Modern in bearing, it holds within the hand the ordering principle of the world. In East Asian thought, yin and yang are not a fixed binary but a shifting relation; the overglaze platinum registers those subtle fluctuations.
