“This area of the Algerian Sahara, the driest in the world, was once a savannah. The crossing will have taken thousands of years… I remember those forests of basalte-coloured magmatic rock, those soils strewn with stones in the shape of body fragments, which from one moment to the next, in the blindness of the micas, reveal a red sand underneath, so red, like a decisive flash that takes everything with it and starts all over again. Like sands that consolidate into sandstone and sandstones that disintegrate into sand. I remember those great monolithic masses of granite where the men and women painted and carved the walls and built their tools.” _Éva Garcia

For her second solo exhibition, French artist Éva Garcia is presenting a body of new work based on her two practices: engraving, in dialogue and resonance with sculpture, as a shared vision of the state of the world. Weight, density and texture are omnipresent in a tactility that is both visual and haptic. The strength and fragility of elements such as the human body or rock enter into tension with the eye, provoking a profound emotion that is both total and fragmented.

“Tadrart, the title of my latest series of large-format engravings, with their burnt sienna paper and carborundum affixed to a metal plate, modulating the forms, sculpting the imprints, inscribing memory in the authority of impermanence. This work is part of a long-term process, a logical continuation of what has taken shape through this walk and this spiritual discovery passed on by the Ajjer Tuaregs, and is the culmination of experiments and creative devices I began during my residency at the Fondation Fiminco in France.” – Éva Garcia
