Jonathan Soulié

Born and lives in France

Born close to nature, between river and woodedhills, wild flora and fauna have been the architects of what Jonathan Soulié has become. Through his art, he interprets the beauty of the world. Across between an artist and a coppersmith, he fuses artistic creativity with an ancestral technique to transcend the virtuosity of the material. The essence of his work is to transmit energies and vibrations to the metal to bring out the ‘light’. He does not seek perfection, but rather balance. A balance between the codes of a man-made object and the subtle, organic elegance of Nature. The source of his inspiration lies halfway between the infinitely large and the infinitely small, and lies in Astronomy, Physics and Biology. He creates through the principles of biomimicry, the ovoid form and the vortex. His creations are made entirely from sheets of copper, brass, etc., using the dinanderie technique. This process enables him to bring his works to life and «give them a soul». Drawings, models, templates, deformation of the material. It’s the work of an artist, using craft techniques that are physically and mentally demanding and leave no room for chance. Over the course of hours, days and weeks, the rough, uncompromising material takes shape and becomes soft and airy. In 2021, Jonathan Soulié is part of the Homo Faber Guide and was twice winner in 2020 of the Ateliers d’Art de France competition, Occitanie region – creation category, and, of the Concours Départemental des Métiers d’Art du Tarn – Creation Prize and Public Prize.
