Ethereal Geology is a significant continuation of Stone from Other Mountain, an ongoing art project by Taiwanese artist Liu Chien-Kuang, who is based in Gustavsberg, Sweden. In this new body of work, Liu treats glass as a living, dynamic medium and pushes its material boundaries in order to explore the roots of his Taiwanese identity.

The exhibition features an immersive installation of glass sculptures evoking the raw, natural elements that surround us. These poetic ‘dreamstones’ and deeply meditative vessels invite viewers to connect with the essence of nature. Central to the solo exhibition, Liu explores jade, a gemstone of immense cultural, spiritual and historical significance in Taiwan and East Asia. Revered for centuries as a symbol of purity and moral integrity, and as a bridge between the earthly and the divine, the unique translucency and inner depth of jade are masterfully translated into glass here. By capturing the subtle colourings and soulful weight of this sacred stone, his sculptural vessels become carriers of ancient memory. Through these polished, elemental forms, Ethereal Geology bridges the past, present and future, inviting us to contemplate our connection to the Earth and the rich symbolic narratives within geological history.
