Spazio Nobile has inaugurated a beautiful window display Bela Silva, “Rencontre entre Matisse et Picasso,” around her new book release, which runs until 26 October, during Art Basel / Paris Art Week at Librairie Galignani in Paris. Design @duogrevan
The artist presents her first monograph co-published by Flammarion and Spazio Nobile: a true book-object of art featuring a spectacular cover and beautiful fore-edge painting. This publication curated by the gallery brings together her sculptures, paintings, and large-scale drawings with lush patterns, celebrating nature, myth, and travel. It includes texts by Lise Coirier, Pierre Passebon, Jacques Grange, Christian Larsen, and Glenn Adamson.
This “Encounter Between Matisse and Picasso,” is enhanced by the sunny, yellow sculpture *Parfum hellénique*, which is also featured in Bela Silva’s monograph. Silva’s work with clay is part of a close dialogue with painting. Her hand-modeled sculptures bear the vivid mark of the artist’s touch: the generous, organic forms take shape before being covered with engobes in shimmering hues.
This intuitive approach recalls the freedom with which Pablo Picasso embraced ceramics in Vallauris, transforming clay into a three-dimensional canvas. It evokes the sensuality of line and the chromatic energy so dear to Henri Matisse. At Bela, the engobe is not merely a surface decoration: it becomes one with the material, capturing the light and giving each piece a commanding presence, somewhere between sculptural power and graphic poetry
