Didi NG Wing Yin (HK/FI) is a wood artist based in Helsinki, originally from Hong Kong. He centres on woodworking in unique sculptural furniture and artworks characterised by his distinctive carving techniques. The creative process emphasises the true expression of the materiality in wood, seeking balance between the essence of the material, the intuitive nature of craftsmanship, and conceptual exploration. Ng’s work is grounded in the experimentation of innovative surface carving techniques. He engages with the inherent qualities of wood, allowing its natural properties to guide the process while honouring its intrinsic character. He aims to explore the genuine expression of wood, which he encapsulates in one word: Naturalness.
